2020 Payroll

The City of Lansing refused my FOIA request for detailed payroll information for 2020, but did provide two files that provide some information:

  • A tax summary that provides gross wage amounts and amounts subject to tax. The letter accompanying it said it contained wage and salary information for every employee. Although the sequence seems to be employee name within department, the department is not identified. And although it is not the kind of file that can be sorted or manipulated in any way, it is searchable - you can look up an employee by name. This report has 100 pages.
containing most of the additional information for current employees, specifically: department, job title, bargaining unit (union affiliation), pay rate, longevity date (hire date). It also includes unrequested information regarding position description, level, and level description but does not have final leave payment or termination date. . . However, a significant limitation for this report is that it is a "live" report every time that it is run and does not contain full historical information for a full year going back.
