Average Salaries/Total 2010 Earnings

This calculation only includes employees who worked all of 2010. Those with hire dates or termination dates in 2010 were excluded. Since employees ordinarily receive substantial "final leave payments" when they terminate, excluding them slightly reduces average total earnings. Except for the Fire Fighters Division, salaries were calculated as hourly rate times 2080 (40 hours a week). For the Fire Fighters Division, salaries were calculated as hourly rate times 2799.94 (53.845 hours per week - see Work Week, page 16 of the IAFF contract).
