UAW Wages

Home

Using figures obtained a few years ago from the UAW's website, I've calculated that the "typical GM assembler" will earn nearly $73,000 a year over the 4 years of the 2007 contract. This does not includes benefits. It does include the following:

  • Base wages (about $28.50 per hour)
  • COLA
  • Overtime (estimated at 10%)
  • Shift and seven-day operator premiums
  • Call-in pay
  • Vacation, holiday and other paid time off
  • Contract settlement bonus ($3000)
  • Performance bonuses

I calculated the yearly earnings from a chart on the site that estimated the performance bonuses:

Here are the estimated earnings for each of the 4 years of the contract. To get the yearly base figures for 2008, 2009 and 2010, I divided the bonus by the bonus percentage. For example, the base for 2008 is $2,104 divided by .03.
