City council campaign finance reports August 4, 2019
I've collected the campaign finance reports for all the Lansing city council candidates in Tuesday's primary except for Terry Eagle, who had a reporting waiver. To see a report, click "report" next to the candidate name below. For all but one of the reports, the Ingham County Clerk found errors to be corrected and sent notice to the candidate. Click "error notice" to see the letter. All but Farhan Sheikh-Omar, Carol Wood and Terry Eagle had either a website or a Facebook page for their campaign. Click on the candidate name to see it. For Wood, I linked to her city council biography. Finally, I've provided the number of contributions in each report. I didn't exclude contributions from the candidate, and when the same person or PAC made multiple contributions, I counted each of them.
Dan Ross won't appear on the ballot because he filed after the April deadline. To vote for him, you will need to write in his name.
The overall largest contributor to the campaign was the political action committee (PAC) for Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 333. They gave $5000 to Carol Wood and Jody Washington and $2500 to Julee Rodocker. Also $1000 to Adam Hussain, who is running unopposed and won't have to report until the end of the year.
I've never figured out why the Plumbers & Pipefitters have such a big interest in Lansing elections. Here are their contributions since October (from the Secretary of State website):
The next highest PAC contributor was the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) PAC. They gave $1000 to Carol Wood and Jody Washington. Board of Water & Light workers are represented by the IBEW.
The only other PAC contributor was the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. They gave Carol Wood $500. The Chamber endorsed all incumbents (press release).
