Ripoff Report Complaint Serenity Point Recovery Submitted 12/10/2015
When you are looking at this place as a rehab you are given core classes in which you think you will autimatically start once out of detox... not true. I was also told I would be there for 28 days from the day I went... not true. Your 30 days (unless your insc cuts you off before then) doesn't start until after detox. If you want to do the "core classes" That doesn't start until after you are there for 2 weeks and then it takes 6-8 additional weeks to finish core class. None of this was discussed in the beginning. Nobody goes over any of this with you. The "Native" class consists of sitting there for 2 hours and 45 mins reading and anserring questions by your self. There is no instruction or spiritual work going on, unless you can get this by yourself. You are made to go to groups or else you will be "chitted", once you get to many "chits" you have to wear a vest... which in turn, put the spotlight on you. You will also be vested if you talk to the opposite sex for to long. To me this is demeaning, and child like. Even if you are sick, you are made to go to group, and by such, spread your illness to others. There are way to many patients per fire regulations, many ocea violations, and sanitary violations. They lie to your inscurance in order to receive more money. I was made to sign a weekly report on what I was working on, and it made me sound like I was still using drugs, and they had to supervise me intensly to make sure I didn't use, and my mood had to be worked on, which wasn't the case at all. But if you didn't agree and sign it, you would be kicked out. I just wanted to stay under the radar bc of all the things I heard that they would do to you if you didn't comply. When I was set to leave, they advised me at 4:30pm that there was a $325 "transport fee". At first my mom could mail a check, and then this wasn't suitable and they called her at 8pm and said she must wire the money right away. This "transport fee" was never discussed in the intake, and was confirmed that they didn't discuss it by an employee in ethics. Therefore nothing was signed stating there would be a fee. Then I was told and signed a paper stating when I left I'd be given $10 and a check for the remainder of my balance on my acct which was $130. I never received either. I have called and left messages, and haven't heard back. I was also told the day before I left that they would keep the money on my account for the transport fee, but also give me $10. I told them this was illegal because no transport fee was discussed or signed and they said no it's not. But I am not stupid. There is so much illegal activity going on in this facility. They keep phones from you until the end of the day. Phones are open from 5-6pm and 8-10pm and there are 200 patients and only 6 phones which each call is limited to 10mins. Employees are giving drugs to patients and other employees. When you are in detox you can not call home or anyone, which makes you feel even more like a prisoner... which is not discussed. They take advantage of those wanting help and not to be sick anymore. They take you to a place in the middle of no where, and which you have no clue how to get home even if you wanted to. In detox they have a person who will call people for you and give them your message... the only thing is if your message is talking bad about the place they will not correspond that message. I had numerous messages not sent. The beds/rooms they show online are nothing like what you get. You are stuck in bunkbeds which you hit your head anytime you move. We had 5 people in one room. They are selling tobacco and other products illegally to the patients. The classes you go to are taught by addicts themselves. Not by licensed workers. I was told I would get a letter stating that I was in the program and participated, but when I left they had not done so. Now they are stating they will not send the letter since I left "AMA", but that wasn't the case when I was there and they knew i was leaving early. My mom heard they would pay for my flight and waive my insc deductible and she thought that was a sign. So I was off to a place where I had to stay against my will until my mother believed me that this place was a hell hole! Which once she did the research, she got me home. STAY AWAY! |
